The Sonarem Group has obtained two new authorisations to operate gold mining sites in Tamanrasset and In Guezzam, strengthening the strategic importance of the gold industry in Algeria. With 93 identified deposits, including the recently reopened Amesmessa and Tirek mines, the country produced 350 kg of gold between 2022 and 2024, and is now aiming for 240 kg per year and more in the long term. More than 260 permits have been issued to industrial and artisanal operators, with formalisation and traceability.
Sonarem is also focusing on training, with the creation of a mining trade school in Algiers in 2026 and a technical institute in Tlemcen. International partnerships, notably with the Malaysian group Lion, are supporting this momentum. The subsidiaries ENOR and AGENOR are responsible for the mining and processing of precious metals, respectively, contributing to industrial diversification.
Finally, CEO Belkacem Soltani met with trade unions to define a roadmap focused on social dialogue, improving working conditions, and valuing human resources, achieving sustainable growth in the gold sector.
