At the opening of the 6th National Winter Cereals Conference in Constantine, the minister announced a record harvest of over 2.1 million quintals, a level not seen since 1962. Durum wheat accounts for the bulk of this production, with 1.28 million quintals from more than 90,000 hectares of cultivated land. To date, 1.84 million quintals have been stored, while 220 farmers have been summoned to deliver their harvests.
These results are attributed to the expansion of agricultural land, mechanisation, and modern irrigation, illustrating Constantine's progress in this area. The minister praised the efforts of local farmers and said that this momentum reflects a profound transformation of the sector, geared toward food self-sufficiency through technology, as desired by President Tebboune.
The visit included several stops, including the El Khroub cooperative, the El-Baâraouia farm, the Ali Mendjeli Biotechnology Research Centre, and the Belbjaoui farm in Aïn Smara.
