Ongoing efforts to improve the regulatory framework governing the activity

Efforts are underway to improve the regulatory framework governing micro-importation (small-scale trade), in line with concerns raised in the field, said Noureddine Ouadah, Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups, and Micro-enterprises, on Tuesday in Algiers. He was participating alongside Mustapha Hidaoui, Minister of Youth, in a study day on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in e-commerce. As part of the regularization of micro-imports, Mr Ouadah stated that his sector is working to improve this new experience, announcing that meetings will soon be held with the relevant ministries to gather importers' opinions and address their concerns. This measure, implemented following instructions from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during the Council of Ministers meeting on May 18, aims to integrate young micro-importers into the formal foreign trade circuit.

In accordance with the executive decree published in June, micro-importation is now regulated: it concerns individual transactions carried out during trips abroad, for goods intended for resale in their current state, up to a limit of 1.8 million Algerian dinars per trip and two visits per month.

The minister emphasised that this framework enables young people to engage in their activities legally while benefiting from protection and social and commercial benefits. He also highlighted the innovation brought about by this system, which transforms an informal practice into a regulated activity, managed via a digital platform with a one-stop shop.
