The ARPCE warns of the proliferation of unapproved mobile phones imported through informal channels, particularly via ‘cabas’ (informal street vendors). These devices, sold without packaging or documentation, pose health risks (uncontrolled radiation) and communication security (disconnections, incompatibility with local networks, inaccessibility to emergency numbers). This warning comes at a time when certain operators, such as Condor, are announcing their ambition to revive local production. The ARPCE reminds users that all devices must be approved and identifiable by a label stating ‘Approved by the ARPCE’, in accordance with Decision No. 28 of 16 October 2019. The aim is to clean up the market, protect consumers and support industrial recovery in the face of unfair competition from informal imports.
