Visas and investments: What Ahmed Attaf said

The conditions for granting visas at Algerian embassies and consulates are often cited as an obstacle to the arrival of foreign tourists and investors in Algeria. Two days after the close of the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF-2025), held from September 4 to 10 in Algiers, Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf held a press conference at the ministry's headquarters on Saturday, during which he was asked about the Algerian diplomatic service's willingness to support the partnerships formed during the event by facilitating visa access for foreign economic operators.

Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf emphasized that Algeria's attractiveness to investors is not based on visa policy, but mainly on improvements in the business climate. He specified that investment requires a comprehensive approach involving several sectors and an effective organization. According to him, the recent increase in foreign investment in Algeria is due to economic reforms and the implementation of favourable policies, and not to a change in visa issuance rules, which remain unchanged.

Attaf concluded by stating that visas alone cannot remove barriers to investment if the economic framework is not attractive.
