For a contract worth $430 million: 16 new ATRs soon to be in Algerian skies

"We will start receiving the ATR-type aircraft from June 2016, at a rate of one every quarter. This will reinforce Tassili Airlines' current fleet of 15 aircraft. Within two and a half years, this will increase the domestic airline's fleet to around thirty aircraft. We will also be strengthening this fleet.

With Air Algérie's current fleet of ATR aircraft", explained Hamza Benhamouda, CEO of Air Algérie, at a press conference held to mark the signing of the contract with ATR.

The value of the contract to acquire 16 new ATR 72-600 aircraft is estimated $420 to $430 million.

This reflects the authorities' determination to modernize the national fleet and support the revival of air transport, particularly to landlocked regions.

The ATR 72-600 is a regional turboprop aircraft capable of carrying between 70 and 78 passengers. It offers a range of 1,665 km and a cruising speed of 510 km/h, while consuming up to 40% less fuel than a regional jet. Its ability to operate on short runways makes it ideal for serving secondary airports. Equipped with modern avionics and high reliability, it is particularly well suited to Algeria's climatic and geographical conditions.
