National stockpile of medicines expected to increase by more than 25% in 2026

The national stockpile of medicines and medical devices is expected to increase by more than 25% in 2026, Sabri Djerroud, Director General of the Central Hospital Pharmacy (PCH), said Tuesday in Algiers.

At the “Hospitalia Expo” trade show, Mr Djerroud announced that the national stock of medicines and medical devices will increase by more than 25% by 2026. In 2024, distribution increased by 39% and receipts by 41%.

The fight against cancer has a record budget of 84 billion Algerian dinars, 66% of which is for innovative medicines. More than 40 billion Algerian dinars have been allocated to rarer diseases.

He also highlighted a 300% increase over five years in purchasing locally produced drugs, which now account for the majority of drugs used in hospitals. Finally, the PCH is committed to modernization and partnerships with start-ups and micro-enterprises.
