Point-of-sale terminal payments in the first seven months of the year: sustained growth

Point-of-sale terminal payments totalled more than 5.2 million transactions between January and July, amounting to 47.2 billion Algerian dinars, confirming the sustained growth of this payment method, according to data from the Economic Interest Group for Electronic Banking (GIE Monétique).

In 2024, 5.5 million payments via POS terminals, representing 44.5 billion DZD,  were recorded. Between January and July 2025, a peak was reached in July with nearly 858,000 transactions totalling more than 7.6 billion DA. The number of POS terminals increased to 77,500 at the end of July, compared to 68,140 in December 2024.

The number of payment cards in circulation exceeds 20.7 million, including CIB and Eddahabia cards. Online payments generated more than 13.2 million transactions in the first seven months of 2025, with 644 active online merchants, including major national billing companies.

Since 2016, online payments have totalled 76.4 million transactions worth more than DZD 43.4 billion. Mobile payments recorded 39.7 million transactions (DZD 31.3 billion) between January and July 2025, while P2P transfers reached 26.2 million transactions worth DZD 354.8 billion, confirming their central role in the circulation of funds.
