Traditional industries: Over 460,000 artisans registered nationwide

According to Abdelkrim Berki, Director General of the National Chamber of Traditional Industries and Crafts, the number of registered craftsmen nationwide has exceeded 460,000 to date. He stressed to continue improving the business climate for this category of entrepreneurs, to increase this number to 700,000 artisans over the next few years.

Speaking at a conference in Algiers on the role of young people in creating businesses, Berki said that craftsmen had generated more than 1,347,000 jobs and contributed more than 400 billion dinars to GDP in 2024. He added that the sector aims to reach 700,000 craftsmen, creating more than two million jobs. He emphasised that the craft industry is not just about preserving cultural heritage, but is an essential pillar of the national economy. The President of the National Association of Traders and Craftsmen, Tahar Boulenouar, encouraged youth to capitalise on public support to launch productive businesses. Finally, a cooperation agreement was signed with the "Industrie de Demain" Foundation to facilitate the exchange of expertise and strengthen local coordination.
