The Minister of Public Works, Lakhdar Rakhroukh, confirmed that the project to expand the phosphate port of Annaba is part of the national integrated phosphate program initiated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to develop domestic stocks. Launched on March 24, 2024, the project is progressing at an acceptable pace.
Carried out by an Algerian-Chinese consortium, it includes the extension of the main breakwater (1,400 m), the construction of a mineral quay (1,600 m), a draft of 16 m, the development of 82 hectares, and the excavation of the basin. This project aims to strengthen Algeria's position in the Mediterranean and international markets, increase export capacity, and develop the phosphate production chain.
Urgent measures have been taken to accelerate the work, including the creation of a central monitoring committee and a coordination schedule. The project is expected to stimulate investment, create jobs, and boost the economy in eastern Algeria.
