Arkab receives Japanese ambassador

According to a Ministry press release, the Minister of State, and Minister of Energy, Mr. Mohamed Arkab, received the new Japanese Ambassador to Algeria, Mr. Suzuki Kotaro, at the Ministry's head office in Algiers on Sunday, with the two Secretaries of State for Mines and Renewable Energies in attendance.

The same source said "During the meeting, the two parties discussed ways of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the energy, mining and renewable energies sectors, while emphasizing the importance of the relationship between Algeria and Japan.

"Discussions also focused on exploring new horizons for cooperation in a wide range of fields, including hydrocarbons, in particular exploration and field development activities, as well as new and renewable energies such as solar energy, hydrogen development and energy storage," adds the press release.

With this in mind, Minister Arkab outlined the major development programs underway in Algeria's energy, mining and renewable energies sectors, underlining the importance of Japanese companies' participation in these strategic projects. He also stressed the need to focus on knowledge transfer, training, technological development and the local manufacture of equipment, particularly in renewable energies and seawater desalination.

"The two parties also discussed cooperation in the mining sector, and opportunities for the exploration and exploitation of rare metals and rare earths, in addition to the structuring mining projects that Algeria is committed to developing to strengthen its national economy," emphasizes the same source.

For his part, the Japanese ambassador expressed the interest of Japanese companies in investing in Algeria, praising the good investment climate and the excellent opportunities offered by the Algerian market, particularly in the fields of hydrocarbons, mining and renewable energies. He also underlined his country's willingness to strengthen cooperation in areas of common interest, to serve the mutual interests of both countries.
