Yahia Bachir on the mechanical engineering industry: ‘Achieve a 30% integration rate during the first few years.’

The Algeria International Exhibition for Equipment, Technologies, and Services for the Mechanical Engineering Industry (Algest-2025), which opened yesterday in Algiers, was attended by Minister of Industry, Yahia Bachir, as part of discussions with foreign partners in the mechanical engineering sector.

At an event dedicated to the sector, Minister Yahia Bachir reaffirmed the strategic importance of the mechanical engineering industry in Algeria's new economic roadmap. He emphasized the modernization of equipment, the optimization of infrastructure, and an increase in the rate of local integration, with a target of 30% in the early years, then 50 to 60% in the medium term.

The minister also emphasized international partnerships, inviting companies to develop local manufacturing and obtain the necessary certifications, with the support of the Directorate General for Mechanical Industry. Training and upskilling the workforce, as well as supporting innovation and research, were presented as essential pillars of this strategy aimed at diversifying the economy and reducing dependence on external markets.
