The Minister of Foreign Trade,
Kamel Rezig, has ordered close monitoring of Algerian companies that signed
contracts at the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) to ensure their
sustainable establishment in foreign markets. He emphasizes the need for
concrete support, including customs facilities, access to financing, and
logistical support. In this context, the government plans to create two new
structures—the Algerian Import Authority and the Export Authority—to replace
ALGEX, which is considered ineffective. These entities will be tasked with
strategically managing foreign trade. This reform is part of a broader policy
aimed at correcting trade imbalances and diversifying exports, particularly in
the agri-food, pharmaceutical, and construction materials sectors. The ministry
is also preparing a provisional programme to anticipate domestic market needs
more effectively and reduce administrative delays.
Regarding imports,
priority will be given to strategic goods, while supporting local industries that are capable of replacing certain imported products. Algeria's participation in
international trade fairs has been deemed positive, with regional contracts
signed at the IATF in Algiers. Finally, the Special Export Promotion Fund
continues to support businesses by covering part of the costs associated with
logistics and prospecting, thereby facilitating their access to foreign
markets.
