3,200 MW project: first two power plants to be commissioned before the end of 2025

The first two photovoltaic power plants, built as part of the 3,200 MW project, are expected to come online before the end of 2025, according to a statement released Monday by the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energy.

Algeria is actively pursuing its National Renewable Energy Program with the construction of the El Ghrous (Biskra) and Tendla (El-Meghaïer) power plants, each with a capacity of 200 MW. These facilities are part of a comprehensive 3,200 MW project spread across 22 power plants, aiming to commission 15,000 MW by 2035.

At the same time, more than 33,320 farms have been connected to the electricity grid, with a target of 100,000 connections by the end of the year, in support of boosting the agricultural sector. In September, several energy infrastructure projects were commissioned in various wilayas, strengthening the continuity of public services. Also, it connected 693 schools, universities, and training establishments to electricity and gas for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Minister Mourad Adjal is overseeing the reorganization of the ministry to optimize human resources and administrative efficiency, with a roadmap planned for the last quarter of 2025.

Internationally, Algeria will participate in Russian Energy Week (October 15–17) and the 30th Conference on Nuclear Fusion Energy in China (October 13–18) to strengthen cooperation and explore prospects for the development of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
