In a rousing speech at the 4th edition of the IATF, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune presented the country's economic roadmap, based on three pillars: tax reform, industrial recovery, and agricultural self-sufficiency. He stressed the need to reduce dependence on hydrocarbons and broaden the tax base to finance the state sustainably, while ensuring equitable redistribution and refusing any recourse to external debt.

Taxation is presented as a pillar of national sovereignty. The president has called for fairer taxation, based on contributions from high earners and businesses, with better integration of the informal economy. The aim is to make domestic taxation the main lever for public financing.

On the industrial front, more than 17,000 projects are underway, with the ambition of increasing the industry's contribution to GDP to 13% by 2027. Strategic sectors, including agrifood, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals, are being targeted, and investments are expected to generate jobs, tax revenues, and exports.

At the same time, agriculture is called upon to ensure food self-sufficiency, particularly in wheat, while becoming a tax contributor through processing and export. The state supports the sector but demands discipline and transparency from producers.

Finally, the president welcomed the success of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF), with USD 48 billion in contracts signed, including USD 23 billion for Algeria. He called on operators to intensify their efforts to make Algeria a sovereign economic power, free from dependence and debt.
