Yacine Mehdi Oualid: Modernizing agriculture, a priority for strengthening national food security

Following the cabinet reshuffle announced by the President of the Republic, Yacine Mehdi Oualid officially took office on Monday as Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Maritime Fisheries, succeeding Youcef Cherfa.

The handover ceremony took place at the ministry's headquarters, in the presence of the sector's senior officials and executives.

In his speech, Oualid reiterated that “agriculture is a strategic pillar for food security and economic development in the country.” He highlighted the need to modernize this key sector to adapt it to current requirements and elevate it to a level of excellence.


The new minister also confirmed his commitment to continuing the reforms already underway and to mobilizing all available resources to enhance productivity, promote innovation, and encourage sustainable management of natural resources to ensure national food sovereignty.
