$150 million deal signed: Algerian cables and electrical wiring harnesses for South Africa

Algerian automotive subcontracting has begun making inroads across Africa, and the 4th edition of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) in Algiers is a sign of things to come. Yesterday, IDNet signed a $150 million agreement with South African automotive company Met Air Investments.

IDNet, a company specializing in electrical cables and wiring harnesses, recently became a supplier to the Fiat plant in Tafraoui, thereby strengthening Algeria's industrial fabric and its own investment capacity. The agreement signed provides for IDNet to import raw materials, which will then be re-exported to Fiat in a win-win partnership. The company's director, Ali Mammeri, is optimistic about the impact of this five-year cooperation on the national economy and on the development of local skills. This partnership is part of a broader trend towards the export of Algerian automotive parts, as exemplified by Iris Tyres, and could extend to other national equipment manufacturers thanks to the opportunities offered by the AfCFTA and Fiat's approval. Currently, 13 suppliers supply the Tafraoui plant, a figure that is expected to reach 20 by next year, pending the start of operations at the Hyundai plant.
