The Minister of Transport, who presented a paper on the subject, discussed the main factors behind this phenomenon, particularly in certain Saharan regions. The Minister also discussed solutions and measures to be taken to combat blockage of railways with sand. The Minister detailed the solutions advocated, including increasing the number of dredging and maintenance operations on the entire railway network, as well as carrying out intensive afforestation operations along the lines concerned.
