Farms and climate change: digital technology will boost resilience

The Professional Agricultural Association of Citrus Growers in the Wilaya of Algiers (APAAWA), in coordination with the National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA), organized a workshop in Algiers on Tuesday, contributing digital tools to strengthening the resilience of orchards in the face of climate change.

Ali Salem, Chairman of APAAWA and member of the Interprofessional Citrus Council, stressed the importance of cutting-edge technologies, particularly micro-irrigation and automatic pivots, in coping with the climate changes that are disrupting all agricultural sectors. He insists on the need to anticipate and adapt agricultural practices using digital technology, which can provide farmers with real-time alerts and decision-making tools.

Amir Kara, founder of the start-up Agrotech Solutions, supports this vision by offering integrated information systems to modernize agriculture and livestock farming, improve productivity, and reduce losses. He emphasizes the importance of collecting and using data to make informed decisions, in line with the guidelines set out by the President of the Republic. Digitization is presented as a strategic necessity to ensure the competitiveness and sustainability of the agricultural sector in the face of growing climate challenges. Several pilot farms and large companies have already adopted these digital tools.
