A new marine aquaculture farm project, with a capacity of 800 tons per cycle, is being set up in Beni Ksila, Wilaya of Bejaia, with production scheduled for 2026. This is the second project of this size; the first was launched in Toudja last May. Two other similar projects have also been approved this year. The province currently has six marine aquaculture farms, four of which are in production, with a theoretical production capacity of 3,800 tons per cycle.
Two existing farms also intend to expand their activities to increase national production. By 2025, more than 2.7 million sea bass and sea bream fry will have been stocked, a number that is expected to exceed 5 million by the end of October. The province also has shellfish farming projects, processing units, and a 20-hectare aquaculture zone for hatcheries and shrimp farming. 132 irrigation ponds contribute to freshwater aquaculture, with carp fry introduced into local dams.
