Amizour: Zinc and lead mine project takes shape

The Chairman and CEO of the SONAREM Group (Société Nationale de Recherches et d'Exploitation Minières (National Mining Research and Exploitation Company),)), meeting representatives of the inhabitants of the village of Aït Bouzid affected by expropriation for the Amizour zinc and lead mine project at Tala Hamza, in the wilaya of Béjaïa, at a meeting attended by the deputy to the National People's Assembly for the wilaya of Bejaïa, as well as executives from the group, discussed compensation mechanisms and facilitating the launch of the project as soon as possible.

The Sonarem Group organized a meeting with local communities to strengthen dialogue, make up for lost time in the progress of a strategic mining project, and present the new phase marked by partnerships with Chinese and Australian institutions through the joint venture "Bejaïa Zinc et Plomb (Bejaïa Zinc and Lead)." This project, one of the 12 largest in the world, has more than 24 million tons of annual reserves and will be operated using clean technologies. Local representatives expressed their support, asked for the consultation to continue and subsequently, minutes be signed at a later date. Sonarem emphasizes the objective of building consensus and accelerating the project, which is expected to generate hundreds of jobs, support the manufacturing industry, attract investment and improve regional infrastructure.
