Alnaft prepares to launch Bid Round 2025: An opportunity for major foreign groups

Algeria is preparing to launch its second international call for expressions of interest in hydrocarbon investment, Bid Round 2025. This call for tenders will feature a new approach based on a “nomination process” aimed at boosting the attractiveness of the Algerian market among foreign energy players.

Algerian Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines Mohamed Arkab invited Chinese companies to strengthen their presence in the Algerian market during a meeting with the Chinese ambassador. The Chinese group Sinopec, already well established, continues to win major contracts with Sonatrach, including in the field of unconventional gas, where it competes with major American companies. A new Chinese player, Zpec, recently obtained a license to operate the Zerafa II block.

The national agency Alnaft, for its part, is adopting a new, more flexible approach in preparing for the 2025 Bid Round, declaring itself open to adjusting the rules and conditions to attract more foreign investors. This strategy aims to strengthen national production capacities, particularly for natural gas. Algeria is thus relying on strong foreign partnerships to meet growing demand for hydrocarbons, both nationally and internationally.
