Africa's largest viaduct soon to be completed

The Béchar-Gara Djebilet (Tindouf) railway line will be put into service with an average of 10 trains operating daily, transporting mining products, goods, and passengers, testifying to the strategic importance of the 950-kilometre megaproject, which will revolutionize rail transport in the southwestern part of the country.

The Oued Daoura viaduct, 4.11 km long and 12 m high, is the central element of a vast railway project designed to exploit the iron ore deposit at Gara Djebilet (1.7 billion tons of reserves). Built in partnership with China Railway Construction Corporation Limited, the project involves significant technical and industrial resources, including 1,170 prefabricated beams and 1,432 foundation piles. This strategic project aims to connect southwestern and northern Algeria, facilitating the transport of minerals, goods, and passengers, and creating a genuine economic corridor. Algeria aims to expand its rail network from 4,787 km to 15,000 km by 2030, with 1,431 engineering structures already underway or completed along the line. Thanks to the use of advanced technologies, such as automatic rail welding, the line is scheduled to enter service before 2025, consolidating Algeria's position as a future African rail hub.
