"The electric car is a chance for Algeria to get out of this dependence on hydrocarbons," Mr. Chitour told APS, after a consultation meeting with the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Brahim Boumzar, on energy transition in the postal and telecommunications sector.
He explained that "Algeria buys two billion tons of fuel every year and that by 2030, the ton of CO2 emitted, according to the UN Climate Experts Group (IPCC), will be more and more expensive. and, at the same time, there will be fewer and fewer thermal cars ".
It should be noted that the IPCC has defined that the ton of CO2 should experience a significant increase to reach 100 euros in 2030.
Mr. Chitour indicated that "the electric car is a site that we are in the process of making the government admit. But, he said, there is reluctance on the part of the company which is not yet ready to embark on this new technology ".
"We must educate the citizen to acquire this type of vehicle," he said, noting that "filling up an electric car costs 5 times less than that of a gasoline car".
He recalled, in this regard, that several electric terminals had been imported by Algeria and will soon be installed at the level of Naftal gas stations deployed all along the East-West motorway.
Electric vehicles should also be acquired, according to the minister, who said that the cost of the vehicles can be estimated at only 10,000 euros.
