Renewable energy: “Solar 1,000 megawatts” the largest project in Africa

news-detail

According to Zine El-Abidine Boumelit, director at the Ministry of Energy Transition and Renewable Energies, the government is currently focusing on the large-scale development of renewable energies and the promotion of its promising projects, by stimulating investments in this area, starting with the selection of clean energies for electricity production. To this end, it has put forward the project of producing 1,000 megawatts of clean energy in the provinces of Laghouat, Ouargla, Touggourt, El Oued and Béchar. Provinces with high solar potential. A project with an estimated cost of $1 billion, which is in line with the 15,000-megawatt national production program by 2030, and requires an estimated $15 billion in global funding. The first amount of energy that will be produced from this project, called ‘Solar 1,000 megawatts’, is expected by the end of 2023, said Mr. Boumelit, who said in this context that the electricity generated by the project will be sold ‘exclusively and in full’ to Sonelgaz.
