Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Commission: Review and Outlook

In figures, at the end of December 2021, the total power of renewable energy with and without hydroelectricity was 567,1 MW (megawatts) and 438,2 MW respectively, of which 36,9 MW were off-grid. Between 2019 and 2021, the share of non-grid renewable energy increased from 6% to 8% in the cumulative balance of renewable energy installations. Solar kits, on the other hand, account for a considerable proportion of the off-grid PV solar fleet, accounting for nearly half (46%). Also, the information-rich balance sheet indicates that an additional capacity of +5.9 MWc was recorded for solar kits installed in remote areas (shadow areas), an increase of +52% compared to 2019. According to the same document, ‘an important local industrial base in the renewable value chain, in particular PV solar, is being developed with, inter alia, PV solar panel production plants, cable manufacturing plants, PV module-carrying metal structures, ... and a solar inverter manufacturing plant under construction’.
