Algeria is preparing to launch its ambitious integrated phosphate project, currently in the final phase of technical study ("competitive feed"), before its implementation in the field. Led by Sonatrach and Sonarem, this project aims to produce 6 million tons of fertilizer per year (phosphate, nitrogen, ammonia, urea) from a deposit estimated at two billion tons of ore.

At the Gastech forum in Milan, Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi met with the executive chairman of OCI, Europe's leading fertilizer group, to explore industrial partnerships. This cooperation could strengthen Algeria's value chain in the downstream production sector.

The project spans three sites: Bled El Hadba for extraction, Ouled El Keberit for processing, and a railway line to the port of Annaba for export. It aims to meet growing local demand for fertilizers and position Algeria in the global fertilizer market.

This strategic project is also part of an industrial vision focused on innovation, with prospects for using phosphate in the manufacture of lithium-ion batteries, within the framework of Industry 5.0 led by Professor Karim Zaghib.
