Since 2020, Algeria has made significant progress in the energy sector. More than 100,000 farms have been connected to electricity, raising the national coverage rate to 99% for electricity and 72% for gas, respectively serving 12.5 million and 8.2 million customers. The country has installed 1,000 charging stations for electric vehicles, distributed 17 million carbon monoxide detectors, and connected five desalination plants ahead of schedule, while three other similar projects are in the pipeline.

In renewable energy, the first phase of the 15,000 MW program for 2035 has been launched, with 3,200 MW spread across 14 provinces, while an off-grid program is underway to electrify isolated areas using solar power. Algeria is also preparing to develop green hydrogen, with feasibility studies underway, as well as focusing on local production of radioisotopes and radiopharmaceuticals to reduce imports and improve medical care.

Internationally, the country is banking on an electricity interconnection project with the northern Mediterranean basin to export clean electricity. Lastly, the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energy was established to accelerate the energy transition, improve governance, and strengthen the sector's digitalization.
