The official opening of a monumental railway viaduct marks a decisive step forward in the construction of the 950 km Béchar–Tindouf–Gara Djebilet mining line. Abdelkader Mazzar, ANESRIF's central communications director, praised this infrastructure as one of the most complex and emblematic parts of the project.
This 12-meter-high bridge required colossal resources: 154,100 m³ of reinforced concrete, 117 load-bearing decks, 1,170 prestressed concrete beams, and 116 piers resting on 1,432 piles. To cope with extreme weather conditions, prefabrication areas and concrete plants equipped with cooling systems were set up.
The mega railway project, which crosses the provinces of Béchar, Béni Abbès, and Tindouf, includes a total of 1,431 engineering structures, including 45 railway bridges, 48 road bridges, and 1,338 hydraulic structures.
During the Council of Ministers meeting on November 16, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune announced the official opening of the Béchar–Tindouf line in January 2026. The inauguration will be celebrated as a "day of celebration," symbolizing a new economic milestone for Algeria.
In addition, the head of state has ordered the launch of local mining operations at Gara Djebilet in the first quarter of 2026. This decision, described as historic, reflects a desire for economic diversification and the assertion of national sovereignty, excluding oil and gas.
