ONEDD /FAO: An agreement to carry out a project at the Bibans Massif

The agreement was initialed by the Director General of ONEDD, Karim Arab, and the FAO representative in Algeria, Irina Kouplevastskaya Buttoud, in the presence of Minister of the Environment, Samia Moualfi, and representatives of the Ministries of the Interior, Foreign Affairs and Agriculture.

This project, which will be financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) at $3,297,260, will be implemented by ONEDD with technical support from FAO.

It will be implemented, in a first phase, in the two municipalities Theniet Ennasr (province of Bordj Bou Arreidj) and Ighil Ali (province of Bejaïa).

During the signing ceremony, Ms. Moualfi explained that the project, which will run until December 2025, aims to improve the production of mountainous land, and help local people to make the best use of natural resources, with the aim of promoting sustainable development and protecting biodiversity and ecosystems.

On the other hand, Ms. Buttoud highlighted that the realization of this project would contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and integrated forest management.
