Taking part in a working visit to the Research Center in Semiconductor Technology for Energy (CRTSE) of El Harrach, in the company of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdelbaki Benziane, Mr. Chitour a specified that these kits will be completely produced locally with all the elements that compose them, namely the solar panel, the inverter, the battery, the cables and even the glass.
The minister relies on the "genius" of Algerian academics who work at CRTSE and who manufacture solar panels, in addition to the know-how of Algerian operators from the public and private sectors, "without distinction", considering that the goal was development of the national economy and the exit, "as quickly as possible", of Algeria from its dependence on fossil fuels.
He mentioned, in this regard, a battery manufacturer based in Ghardaïa, a company dependent on the Ministry of Energy specializing in the manufacture of inverters or a private operator who would be able to supply the glass. Once the first kit has been manufactured, he explained, it will be possible to produce thousands of them, thus making it possible to find a substitute for imported products which are, for the moment, the only solutions available.
The Minister recalled, on occasion, the need to respond to a demand that is being felt, in particular, in gray areas whose equipment in solar kits would cost the State very dearly, although he rules out the idea of competing with the Chinese who even supply the countries of Europe.
Mr Chitour estimated that the university was "an engine of development of the national economy" and that the 300,000 Algerian academics and 60,000 researchers should "promote the products of research" and have a say in development. economic.
Adding that his visit to CRTSE demonstrated "the feasibility" of the creation of solar kits made in Algeria, even if they offer a lower yield than that of imported products (14% against 18%).
"Even if their price could be more expensive, it is not a problem because it is about expenditure in dinars", he maintained, stressing that the most important was the mastery of the technology and above all, the start of an energy transition which is essential in order to be able to leave to future generations at least half of the natural gas reserves estimated at 2.5 trillion m3.
He also indicated that the person most responsible for the energy transition was the citizen "who must, he said, be convinced by Algerian models".
Mr Chitour also called for the exploitation of energy sources other than hydrocarbons like the 280 existing geothermal sources in Algeria or even wood as is done throughout the world.
For his part, Mr. Benziane declared on the sidelines of this visit that the promotion of research products is part of the strategy of his department through its openness to the socio-economic environment so that academics contribute to economic development. and the reduction of the import bill.
