Algiers Port: Quality approach to improve services in 2021

news-detail

"For 2021, the main objectives are the constant improvement of the quality of the services provided", specified M. Larbi in the editorial of the company's information periodical, specifying that this quality approach aims to guarantee the efficiency, speed of treatment of ships and the delivery of goods to customers for a better fluidity of passage of cargoes from the ports.

According to him, the hourly amplitude and the speed of processing will be subordinated to the introduction of innovative resources, in particular by the valuation of the operations of digitization of the logistics chain, another digitization action in order to enrich the information system.

"The port world is always demanding in terms of quality, precision, reliability, deadlines, costs and responsiveness to improve our performance. This is why we are working to master and implement the most competitive measures, to innovate in digitization and maintain a continuous training policy that aims to improve the human resource, the key to the success of any change, '' he added.

Develop e-port activity

He, on the other hand, underlined that, with the prospect of growth picking up again from the 1st quarter of 2021, Epal is strengthening its integration into “e-port activity”.

The objective of this approach is the dematerialization of procedures through the generalization of electronic document management, better coordination and planning aimed at improving performance, reducing demurrage costs and limiting the stay of goods at ports. , explained the same manager.

He also indicated that the company was following with particular attention the 'information of operational functions' project through the MSGMAO system (Marines Soft, computer-assisted maintenance management).

It is, he continues, a real decision support tool, which facilitates the management missions and the operation of maintenance services as well as all operations related to the activity.

For the CEO of Epal, these positive management actions, backed by a serene social climate within the company, constituted the line of conduct and work for 2020.

Returning to the situation of the Company the previous year, Mr. Larbi noted that the Epal closed 2020 in a "climate of economic resistance against the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic".

He, in this wake, added that the port economy has withstood the disasters of the pandemic thanks to "the pooling of resources" which has contributed to the maintenance in a state of permanent production of the work tool because the activity commercial ports represent "a major economic and financial resource for the stability of the national economy".

He also highlighted the mobilization of workers at the Port of Algiers to maintain a "balanced growth rate" despite a set of exogenous constraints.

"The port of Algiers has not frozen its activities but has adapted to the collective containment measures introduced", he maintains.

Nevertheless, the reduction, both for the navigation movement and for the freight traffic, was, he continues, inevitably observed in 2020, in comparison with the year 2019.

"The decrease in the movement of operating vessels is largely justified by the freeze on car ferries, due to the closure of borders," explained the CEO of Epal, adding that this decrease had repercussions on the tonnage of the gross tonnage of vessels, on the overall traffic of goods and subsequently on the turnover of the company.
