Algeria’s annual inflation rate at 2.6% late January

The average annual inflation rate for January 2021 represents the evolution of the consumer price index over the period from February 2020 to January 2021 compared to that from February 2019 to January 2020.

As for the monthly variation in consumer prices, which is the evolution of the price index for the month of January 2021 compared to that of December 2020, it is + 0.6%, according to the Office .

In terms of development and by product category, the prices of foodstuffs showed an increase of 1.0%, a variation induced both by the evolution of fresh agricultural products and by that of industrial food products.

Fresh agricultural products thus saw a price increase of 1.3%. This increase is mainly explained by an increase in the prices of red meats (+ 0.9%), vegetables (+ 6.7%) and fish (+ 8.5%).

The prices of industrial food products also increased by 0.8%, reflecting an increase in the prices of certain products, in particular, milk, cheese and derivatives (+ 0.5%), oils and fats (+4, 4%) and sugars and sweet products (+ 2.3%).

The prices of manufactured products increased by + 0.3% and services (+ 0.1%).

By type of goods and services, the prices of the “clothing and footwear” groups recorded an increase of 0.6%, those of the “miscellaneous” group also (+ 0.6%), the rest of the groups were characterized, either by moderate variations or by stagnations.

Throughout the year 2020, the inflation rate reached 2.4% against 2% the year before.
