Algeria exceeded the objectives set for the 1st rapeseed cultivation experiment
During his visit to the pilot farm "Richi Abdelmadjid" in the commune of Belkheir, the minister specified that "the objective of reserving 3,000 hectares for this first experience of rapeseed cultivation has been exceeded to reach 3,500 ha actually devoted to this culture in several wilayas ''.
On the same farm which has reserved 40 ha for rapeseed, half of which is for the production of seeds of this plant, Mr. Hamdani noted that this speculation has met with the support of many pilot farms and private farms considering that this which has been achieved so far is "very satisfactory".
Noting that the success obtained during the colza sowing campaign `` is only a start '', the Minister insisted on the need to respect the technical itinerary of this crop until the harvest in coordination with the executives of the Technological Institute for Field Crops and the various players in the sector, including farmers and technicians from the agricultural services and the chamber of agriculture.
The minister indicated that it is necessary to strongly adhere to the development of rapeseed cultivation in Algeria by ensuring the availability of seeds and by expanding the areas during the coming seasons.
He also assured that `` the integration of rapeseed, corn and other speculations in the roadmap for the development of culture in Algeria is not a slogan nor fortuitous but was motivated by the weight of these products in the trade balance ''.
`` The soaring prices of many food products on the international market during this post-coronavirus phase should be a lesson to make the necessary efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in certain strategic products like rapeseed and sunflower '' , he argued.
The minister praised the efforts made in the wilaya of Guelma where 455 ha were devoted to the cultivation of rapeseed exceeding by 100 ha the objective initially set, according to the explanations given to him at the headquarters of the Cereals and Vegetable Cooperative. secs (CCLS) of the municipality of Belkheir.
Mr. Hamdani invited on the occasion the leaders of the agricultural sector to prepare well to ensure the success of the cultivation of cereals in the region by determining with precision the areas irrigated by pivots in these periods of rainfall deficit and developing the structures of Il expressed its dissatisfaction with the great delay accused "for unjustified reasons" in the realization at the headquarters of this same CCLS, of a silo with a capacity of 200,000 quintals.
During his visit to a family farm specializing in fruit arboriculture in the commune of Boumehra occupying 42 ha, the Minister announced `` the next completion '' of a special program for the development of the cultivation of hardy fruit trees, including the almond and pistachio hailing the fact that this farm devoted half a hectare to almond trees.
The Minister closed his visit with a meeting at the conference hall of the wilaya with the executives of his sector, farmers and operators of various sectors.
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, who will continue his visit to the wilaya tomorrow Tuesday, will notably be the guest of an Algerian radio broadcast from Guelma.
