Adoption of the draft law on social insurance, extending maternity leave

On Monday, members of the National People's Assembly (APN) adopted a bill amending and supplementing the law on social insurance, extending maternity leave.

The new provisions introduced in this text provide for "access for working women with social insurance to maternity leave for a total period of 5 months, with a daily allowance equivalent to 100% of their salary for 150 days, instead of the 98 days provided for by the law in force No. 83-11 of 2 July 1983".

It also includes "human rights provisions for working women with social insurance, in the event of the birth of a child suffering from a disability, congenital malformation or serious illness requiring medical assistance or intervention, to benefit, after the 150 days of maternity leave, from an initial extension of 50 days, followed by a second extension of up to 165 additional days, if the state of health of the newborn so requires".
