The General Manager of the Fund announces a balance of +10%: CNAS, the balance goes green
“2024 saw the CNAS balance turn green”. This was the main announcement made by the head of the Caisse Nationale des Assurances Sociales (CNAS) yesterday on television. Nadir Kouadria revealed that “in terms of receipts, we recorded 1827 billion DA in 2024, up 10% on the previous year, 13% of which came from the private sector, a ratio that would be between 30 and 40% if we compared this figure with that of 2022”.
The CNAS General Manager spoke of the importance of digitization in improving the fund's visibility, performance and profitability, although there is still room for improvement. Digitization, combined with the government's tenure and recruitment measures, as well as economic recovery mechanisms, has enabled the fund to emerge from a deficit of nearly 155 billion Algerian dinars (DZD) before 2022. Financial results should continue to improve in 2025, with positive repercussions for the pension fund, the unemployment fund, the national fund for the equalization of social works (FNPOS) and housing subsidies.
In terms of reimbursements, CNAS spent over DA329 billion on medicines, DA17 billion on dialysis, over DA6 billion on cardiovascular diseases and over DA5 billion on maternity care. CNAS covers five chronic diseases, and total reimbursements exceed DA600 billion, or over 90% of revenues.
Digitization has also been at the heart of relations with service providers and the internal organization of CNAS. Various portals, including El Hana, have been launched to make it easier for policyholders to complete their procedures. The new Chifa card, manufactured in Algeria, offers greater storage capacity and improved security. CNAS also plans to launch digital prescriptions and integrate artificial intelligence into prescription processing and the monitoring of company directors from 2025.
Finally, the de-domicilization of Chifa card use will enable policyholders to use their cards in different regions of the country within the next two weeks.
