Algeria-France: CREA and Medef get down to business

Yesterday in Paris, the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA) and the Mouvement des Entreprises de France (Medef) began implementing the objectives set out in the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two organisations in December 2023.

news-detail

This was stated yesterday in a press release issued by the Algerian employers' organisation. This "operational working session", the first meeting of the year, is also seen as a first contact between Mr Kamel Moula, President of CREA, and the newly elected President of Medef, Mr Patrick Martin.

The purpose of the meeting was for the two parties to agree on the conditions for implementing the memorandum of understanding, the press release added. According to the same source, the first resolution will be to officially record the setting up of the Algerian-French Business Council (CAAF) between the two parties and to define the joint working arrangements to make it operational.

"Based on the new texts of the investment code, the aim is to encourage co-production partnerships and the creation of joint ventures between members of the two employers' organisations", it was pointed out.

For 2024, the CREA press release states that the two parties will agree on priority sectors such as agriculture, agri-food, energy and digitalisation, with a view to developing common approaches.

Yesterday's meeting will also enable a thematic roadmap to be drawn up and the working groups that will implement it to be identified. The working groups will meet alternately in Paris and Algiers over the course of the year, with the aim of rapidly achieving the objectives set.
