Algeria focuses on modernizing agriculture: Meeting the challenge of food security

Starting this Monday, the Abdelatif-Rahal International Conference Centre in Algiers will host a two-day national conference that is expected to be decisive for the future of Algerian agriculture.

A conference organized by the Ministry of Agriculture will bring together Algerian and international experts to discuss the transformation of the agricultural sector, with the central objective of ensuring the country's food security. Discussions will focus on the integration of new technologies, optimized water management, digitization, infrastructure modernization, agricultural financing, and climate adaptation. The government aims to develop a sustainable agriculture model based on innovation, scientific cooperation, and institutional restructuring. The minister highlighted the efforts already undertaken: digital platforms for each sector, electrification of farms, construction of silos, opening of one-stop shops, and mobilization of "R'FIG" credit, to strengthen food sovereignty, support exports, and reduce dependence on foreign currency imports. This conference will serve as a basis for defining the country's future agricultural roadmap.
