Craftsmanship is recognised as an essential lever for promoting local potential and stimulating economic growth in Algeria. The Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Houria Meddahi, affirms that this sector is now a strategic link in the national economy. At the International Crafts Fair (SIAT 2025), she underlined its role in creating jobs and strengthening entrepreneurial spirit, particularly among young people and women.
Several measures have been taken to support artisans:
Digitisation of the sector, easier access to financing, marketing support, and participation in national and international events. The minister also emphasises the importance of passing on skills to younger generations through training workshops.
Public authorities encourage the creation of micro-enterprises in the craft sector and support project leaders through various measures. Meddahi calls for the development of a concrete roadmap for effective coordination between institutions and highlights the sector investment opportunities.
Finally, two agreements were signed: one with the Ministry of Vocational Training and the other with the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups, and Microenterprises, thereby strengthening institutional support for craftsmanship.
