"Get
a sneak preview of Algiers Airport's new free shop, which will soon be
open," SGSA wrote in a description accompanying the video of the free shop
posted on its Facebook page.
Last January, SGSIA CEO Mokhtar Said Mediouni and the manager of SARL Salvo
Grima Group Duty Free Algiers, Mohamed Salah Belhouchet, signed the lease for
the 2,400 sq. m. space that will house the free shop.
Under the terms of the contract, the winning company will operate the Free Shop at the airport under the trade name "Afaq" (Horizon).
It will ensure the availability of all global brands present in international airport free shops, with the particularity of introducing local products characteristic of Algeria, Mr. Mediouni had specified.
On this occasion, it was announced that the Free Shop will open its doors in March of this year.
This will make Algiers International Airport "one of the best airports in the Maghreb and Africa in terms of service and performance". The commercial area, which could be extended in the future, also includes a special children's area.
In addition, Mr. Mediouni indicated that his departments were aiming to improve the services provided in the parking lots, as well as at passenger entrances and exits, to ensure a smoother flow of traffic, through the use of artificial intelligence.
For his part, Mr Belhouchet estimated that the contract concluded between the two parties would guarantee almost 150 direct jobs, in addition to injecting greater dynamism into one of Algeria's largest airports.
He added that all standards had been met to ensure the success of the project, which was carried out by Algerian hands and using local products, drawing on the experience of other countries such as Italy, Malta, and Great Britain.
