Leather and Textiles Industry: National production covers the needs of the footwear market

Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, indicated yesterday during an inspection visit to the "Mokrane Zerrouki" production units, located in Cheraga (west of Algiers), belonging to the "Getex" Textiles and Leather group, that the national footwear industry covers national demand.

In this connection, the Minister recalled the introduction of a policy to protect local products by regulating imports. On the subject of this field visit, the Minister explained that it "is part of the implementation of the instructions of President of the Republic, Mr Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who ordered a series of inspection visits to factories and production units to address their problems and help them improve their performance and meet local consumer demand". The aim of the operation is to boost these industries, which are vital to the Algerian market, and enable them to compete with foreign products, added the Minister.


Aoun affirmed that the processing industries sector would provide as many jobs as any other sector in order to meet the country's needs for these products and move towards exports.
