Arkab: “Algeria strengthens its energy sovereignty”

The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, said that the hydrocarbons sector has made “significant” progress in recent years.

During a meeting on excellence in public service in the energy and renewable energy sectors, Minister of State Mohamed Arkab highlighted the progress made by the hydrocarbon sector in exploration, production, and processing, which he attributes to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune's vision focused on energy security and national sovereignty. He called for strengthening investment, local equipment production, technology localization, and public/private partnerships.

Digitalization was presented as a key lever for modernizing the sector, enhancing governance, and ensuring transparency. Regarding the mining sector, the minister advocated a sustainable and structured approach based on a new law to simplify procedures, strengthen transparency, and encourage balanced partnerships to attract investment, transfer technology, and promote local resources.

He concluded that the mining sector is currently experiencing a boom, requiring specialized governance to integrate Algeria into global value chains for strategic raw materials.
