Agriculture, renewable energy, Saharan tourism: Promising investments in the southern provinces

news-detail

With the contribution of renewable energies to Saharan agriculture, we can expect breathtaking results since Algeria has enormous potential in all types of renewable energy. Saharan tourism is no exception to this ambition; there is no lack of tourism assets in this sense, with breathtaking natural and archeological sites, religious tourism, a local heritage that is world-renowned, oases and wonderful old ksours that are just waiting to be visited. With this in mind, the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts is intensively preparing for the 2023/24 Saharan tourism season, which runs from October to April, in order to make the Grand Sud (deep south) an excellen destination for domestic and foreign visitors.

For economist and agricultural expert Laâla Boukhalfa, “the investment prospects in the ten new southern provinces are very promising in view of the assets they contain.” “It is important to involve local officials in supporting the available investment opportunities in the province, which are a promising future for the national economy if properly exploited,” he added. “We must aim to create investments for a real economic take-off of the country,” he said. With regard to the development of agricultural land in the southern provinces, in particular in Touggourt, El-Menia, El-Meghaier and Timimoun, our interlocutor stated that “the State is there to provide the necessary assistance, guidance and support in this area. All bodies are involved to achieve better results.” To be precise on the issue, the agricultural expert said: “Algeria pays particular attention to Saharan agriculture for its role in enhancing food security with sustainable agricultural production capable of supplying markets and meeting consumers’ needs for agricultural products throughout the year.” “The sound policies adopted by the government have also created a strong agricultural base in all regions of the country that can grow, develop and expand through the incentives and facilitations given to farmers and producers in strategic agricultural sectors, particularly in the provinces of the Grand Sud,” he said. For agricultural expert Laâla Boukhalfa, “The government-led investments in the south of the country are promising. The province of El Oued, once an arid region of the Algerian Sahara, has become a veritable international agricultural hub. This has created jobs and strengthened the country's food security. As part of its agricultural strategy, Algeria is part of the conquest of the desert.”
