30% of Algeria's energy mix to come from renewable sources by 2035

Yesterday on Algerian Radio's “Forum de la Première” program, Noureddine Yassaa, Secretary of State to the Minister of Energy in charge of Renewable Energies, unveiled Algeria's ambitions in terms of energy transition.

Algeria prioritises energy security to transform renewable energy sources into sustainable economic development. The country currently has a high electricity access rate of 99% and a 70% gas coverage, making it a regional leader. The national strategy aims to ensure energy comfort for current and future generations. Algeria focuses on utilizing solar and wind energy, reducing its natural resources. The country aims to increase renewable energy production by 30% by 2035, with a target of 15 000 MW. The first phase of this ambitious program is underway, with 212 sites for energy production in 46 wilayas and various photovoltaic energy projects. The country is also identifying sites for developing a pipeline for green hydrogen production, adopted by the Council of Ministers. Algeria aims to strengthen its position as a major energy exporter to neighboring countries, particularly Europe, to increasing demand for renewable energy sources.
