Space Telecommunications Centre: Launch of a major project in Médéa

The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, laid the foundation stone on Saturday in Boughezoul, in the province of Médéa, for a project to secure the infrastructure of Algeria Telecom Satellite's space telecommunications center, the ministry announced in a statement.

A strategic project for a backup centre for national space communications will be carried out in Bougzoul, on a 30,000 m² site, to ensure continuity of service in the event of a failure at the main centre in El Khadra. The site was chosen based on technical criteria: low seismicity, fibre optic density, accessibility via the Chiffa-Bougzoul highway, and proximity to the Algerian Space Agency.

Estimated at one billion dinars, this project aims to contribute to job creation and has a local and national economic impact. It represents a major step forward in strengthening the country's space infrastructure and ensuring the resilience and sustainability of essential communication services.
