Sonatrach strengthens cooperation with US group Oxy at Houston energy forum

On the sidelines of the Algerian-American Energy Forum 2025, which got underway on Tuesday in Houston (USA), the Algerian state-owned oil group Sonatrach signed two new memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with the US company Occidental Petroleum Corporation (Oxy).

Through these agreements, Sonatrach intends to strengthen and expand its strategic partnership with Oxy, particularly in hydrocarbon exploration and production in Algeria. According to a press release of the national oil company, these new agreements reflect a shared desire to intensify cooperation in technical and high-potential segments.


The first memorandum concerns the definition of a framework for discussions aimed at examining the possibilities for developing carbonate reservoirs, a major challenge for the development of oil resources. The second is Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technologies, designed to optimise production and improve recovery rates in existing fields.

 

As a reminder, Sonatrach and Oxy are already collaborating on the development of the Berkine contracted perimeter, besides other partners, under a hydrocarbon contract signed on July 19, 2022.
