Boukhalfa Yaici, Director of the Green Energy Algeria Cluster, calls for an overhaul of the Algerian energy model.
In an interview with the national radio station, he insists that renewable energy development segments must be created that do not depend solely on public funding. He suggests promoting smaller-scale projects, accessible to SMEs and independent producers, particularly in remote agricultural areas, where solar with storage would be more economical than grid connection or the use of generators.
He also warns of the crisis facing the local solar panel industry: several companies are finding themselves in difficulty because their products no longer meet the current call for tender standards. To support them, he recommends implementing a decree to reduce input costs and developing alternative markets such as agriculture and light industry.
Finally, Yaici advocates strategic post-project expectations for a 3200 MW solar project, encouraging partnerships between local and foreign companies and a diversification of funding sources. His vision: to build a circular economy in which renewable energy becomes a driving force behind Algeria's economic diversification.
