On a visit to Béchar, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said that Algeria was ready to welcome migrant workers from sub-Saharan Africa to make up for the labour shortage in the construction and agriculture sectors. However, he stressed the need to control the entry of migrants because of the risks associated with terrorism and extremism. The Head of State recalled that Algeria had an agreement with Niger on repatriating irregular migrants, but suspended by Niamey. He pointed out that migrant workers in a legal situation will benefit from social security, access to healthcare and will be able to transfer part of their salary, provided they follow an official procedure through ANEM. Despite the challenges, the President reaffirmed Algeria's commitment to fraternal relations with the peoples of the Sahel.
