“The 2025 wheat harvest will be the best in recent years.”

Even before the end of the harvest season, the initial results give cause for optimism, and even more. “The 2025 wheat harvest will be the best in recent years,” according to Abdelghani Benali, president of the Interprofessional Council of the Cereal Sector (CNIFC). Cereal production is expected to increase significantly this year and is forecast to reach around 30 million quintals.

Local agricultural services highlight the significant progress made in the cereal sector, the result of joint efforts by farmers and technical authorities. Thanks to support in the form of inputs, equipment, and logistics, the current agricultural season is showing encouraging results, with an estimated production of 30 million quintals, particularly in the eastern and central regions. Abdelghani Benali, president of the CNIFC, points out that Algeria has now achieved self-sufficiency in durum wheat and is moving towards self-sufficiency in seeds, supported by an ambitious state strategy favouring the expansion of cultivated land, particularly in the south. Despite adverse weather conditions that reduced the area under cultivation, digitization enables better monitoring and sustainable planning. The efficiency of local collection centres also facilitated the harvesting and threshing campaign.
