Organised by the Cercle de Commerce et d'Industrie Algéro-Espagnol (CCIAE), in partnership with the Alicante Chamber of Commerce and the Cercle de Commerce et d'Industrie Hispano-Algérien (CCIHA), this event aims to lay the foundations for a new start in economic relations between Algeria and Spain.
The forum will explore new investment opportunities and strengthen partnerships in strategic sectors such as industry, agriculture, energy and foreign trade. This initiative comes when trade relations between the two countries show signs of recovery following diplomatic tension.
A resumption of trade after a partial freeze
In 2021, Spain was Algeria's fifth-largest supplier, with exports worth $2.3 billion. However, following the diplomatic crisis triggered in 2022 by Madrid's U-turn on the Western Sahara issue, Algiers suspended the friendship treaty between the two countries and froze certain commercial transactions.
Since the end of 2023, there have been signs of calm, notably in the gas trade and the gradual resumption of certain Spanish imports into Algeria. In 2024, according to Algerian customs data, the trade volume between the two countries exceeded 3.2 billion dollars, a significant proportion of which was in the energy sector.
Priority sectors at the heart of the forum
The forum aims to strengthen cooperation in sectors deemed priorities for both economies. Algeria, which is currently pursuing a strategy of economic diversification, is looking to attract more foreign investment, particularly in the agro-industry, renewable energies and manufacturing industries.
On the Spanish side, companies are keen to consolidate their presence on the Algerian market and take advantage of the new opportunities offered by Algiers' economic reforms.
This forum could thus mark a decisive stage in reviving Algerian-Spanish economic relations, based on a balanced and mutually beneficial partnership.
